Astoria is a bright and cheerful girl. She loves making friends and having fun with them at Hogwarts. She loves her parents very much, making sure to write to them often. She wasn’t a spoiled child being the only child. Sure if she needed or wanted something she earned it by helping her parents around the house. Her world has turned upside down though and she has gone from bright and cheery to wanting to cry about everything. She doesn’t feel like she has anything to be happy for.

History •
Astoria Nightshade was born to very eccentric parents. They lived near Godric’s Hollow, but out in the middle of nowhere. Their home was a ramshackle old mansion. Cobwebs were strung in almost all of the corners of the house. Some of the spiders were tarantulas, and were pets of the older couple. The poor couple was in their forties and had given up on having children after so long. Married in their early twenties they tried to have children, but to no luck. Adoption was considered, but once the people from the adoption agency met them and saw their house they were denied. So that was no longer an option. The couple both came from old money but they hoarded their money, and never spent it unless they had to.
The people of Godric’s Hollow avoided the property of the Nightshades as it was said to be haunted. If the wind was in the right direction you could hear odd noises and once in a while crying from that direction. When the old couple would come to town people would avoid them giving them space. Children would gape at them. They wore clothing that probably dated back to Shakespearian times, and talked like that too. They had met back when they attended Hogwarts having similar interests and wearing odd clothing that got them made fun of. They had kept to themselves, and got along great with the older ghosts in the castle. Their names were Brambles and Birdie Primrose Nightshade.
Much to their surprise when Birdie thought she was just going through the change of life they found out they were expecting. They were beyond delighted and they set off fireworks that night for hours making the occupants of Godric’s Hollow wonder about them. The townspeople couldn’t believe it when word got around that they were expecting a child. They felt for the child growing up in that ramshackle old mansion and those parents.
Nine months later Birdie had a beautiful baby girl that they named Astoria Primrose Nightshade. She was such a delight to them and perfect to round out their little family. They took her to town and showed her off as much as they could. People were curious to see what they had and thought she was adorable. As Astoria grew older she was a delight to the village. They even accepted her parents a little more with seeing what a happy little girl she was. Her parents were always seen with smiles now instead of the brooding looks they had before she came into their lives.
Astoria, who her parents called Story, was a very active child that kept her parents on their toes. She got into everything and anything. Her mother left her playing in the corner of the kitchen one day to run out and get the laundry off of the line only to come back into her kitchen looking like a winter wonderland. The flour seemed to have fallen off of the shelf which was way out of reach for the eighth month old child. Story was squealing with delight as somehow she had used magic making the flower rise up in the air and fall like snow. Much to Birdie’s dismay the whole kitchen as well as Story and the tarantulas in there were covered in the flour.
As she grew older her parents let her go into the village when she wanted to so she could play with kids her own age that lived there. It wasn’t like she wasn’t in plain sight skipping her way into the village. Once she was in the village they knew that the villagers usually kept an eye on their child. Story would greet each of the villagers by name as she skipped into town and on towards the park where the other children were. There were quite a few other kids in town. One of the boys her age was Albus Potter and she would play with him in the sandbox with him or on the jungle gym. Whatever caught their eye to play on.
Time passed and she received her letter to Hogwarts. She was excited to go, but she already felt a little homesick knowing she would be leaving her parents behind. She had a ball when her parents took her to Diagon Alley to get her supplies to go to Hogwarts. They had made a trip of it, staying at the Leaky Cauldron and really discovering Diagon Alley. She got an owl so that she could owl her parents whenever she wanted to instead of having to wait on their old owl to slowly deliver letters back and forth. She named her Feather because of all of her fathers.
The time had come all too quickly for her to board the Hogwarts Express. She couldn’t stop her tears saying goodbye to her parents who were crying too. Brambles was teary eyed and Birdie was crying her eyes out. Brambles was handing her his handkerchief as Story climbed aboard the Hogwarts Express. Story found a window and waved to her parents till she couldn’t see them anymore.
Story had wiped her tears away and found a compartment with other first years. One of them had been Albus and they talked some on the way there. She met a lot of others too, and she forgot about feeling homesick already having a good time with the other kids. The ride was a long one, but it was fun. After they got there she and the other first years were separated from the older kids and taken to boats. She’d never been on a boat before so that was an all new adventure. The lake was like a mirror in the moonlight highlighting the lit up castle that loomed up before them. It was a breathtaking sight that she was mesmerized with.
The boat ride was too short, and they were taken to the Great Hall. She waited in line to get sorted with the others. When it was her time she walked up and sat down on the stool. “Hufflepuff!” Was quickly called out, and she grinned heading to that table where some of the other kids that had been sorted already into Hufflepuff had gone. Her parents had been Hufflepuffs in their time here so she wasn’t surprised to be put into Hufflepuff.
Story enjoyed her classes and the learning at Hogwarts. She had a little difficulty with flying class. It had taken her a while to get the broom to come up. She hadn’t ever been around a broom before that one could fly on. At first she had been scared going up in the air, but she had quickly gotten used to it. As for her other classes her parents had talked about them over the years preparing her. Her wand she had gotten at Diagon Alley was starting to bond with her too.
She was excited to see her parents at Christmas going home with them, and having their traditional Christmas festivities. She’d cried saying goodbye to them as she left for the start of the rest of the year. It quickly flew by though, and she was back home for the summer. It was a busy summer with helping with the work around the house. Her parents were well into their fifties now, but they were still spry.
Time went by fast and her second, third, and fourth years passed by. It was a happy time for her, and she loved being at Hogwarts though she missed her parents. It was time for her fifth year to be starting, and they were on their way to England by horse and buggy as her parents traveled. Unfortunately one of the horses shied away from a honking car on the main road to London. It had taken off dragging the other horse for a bit, before it was able to catch up. The horses swerved into the traffic, and screaming was the last she remembered along with the screeching of tires..
A day later she woke up in St Mungo’s. She’d asked for her parents, but the nurses would just give her a sad smile and go on. It was the Dr who told her that her parents didn’t make it. She had screamed at him that he was lying only for him to shake his head and leave. It was one of the nurses who had comforted her as she sobbed for her parents. She wasn’t allowed to leave for a few days because of her injuries that were healing though with the potions. When she finally was released she went home to give her final respects to her parents. Almost the whole village turned up for the funeral to which she was grateful for. One of the older ladies in the village who had become friends with her mother over the years took her in. She said that she wasn’t going to let Brambles and Birdie’s daughter be taken by strangers to raise. She was able to go back and forth to her home which was empty now and desolate to her. The tarantula’s she took care of for the next few days.
Every day she visited her parents' graves talking away to them like they were still there with her. One day it felt like it was time to go back to Hogwarts. She said her tearful goodbye with no returned tears that time. It had been a couple of weeks since that fateful day. Feather, who she had no idea what had happened to came flying home right before she had left for Hogwarts. She had found her way home to her. Dottie, the woman who had taken her in, was worried about her leaving not thinking she was ready to go back yet.

Skyler’s tears were slowing as her sobs had ceased as she talked to Rei. “I can’t let Oliver go through that. Even if our older brothers do razz him they love him. He needs them.” She wouldn’t let Oliver break from the family. Sure he had his friends, but they weren’t family. Unfortunately they probably treated him better than his own family sometimes. She shook her head. “No, I can't let you fight my battles for me. I need to face them head on.” She sighed wiping at the tears with the back of her cold hand. She groaned seeing the blue on the back of her hand then. She must look like a mess with her blue mascara running. Looking a mess she didn’t think she could handle facing anyone but Rei right now. She’d seen her worse before. She’d been there for her when Emery dumped her. They’d had ice cream by the gallons with one another.
Though she didn’t know where she was going to clean up or get fresh clothes right now. She could still smell the firewhiskey that had probably split on her clothes somehow. She couldn’t go back to her flat or to the Matheson boys manor. The reality was starting to sink in that she was going to be homeless now, and there was nothing she could do about it. She didn’t even have any money anymore to be able to get a room somewhere even for one night. “I need to find a place to take a shower and figure out how to get some clothes to change into. Then I’ll go confront my mother.” No matter how much she wanted to run from that, she couldn’t. It was past time to really stand up for herself against her mother. If she wanted a life of her own she had to confront her worst nightmare.
